Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in that part of the island of Montreal that is known as the West Island. The West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is an extensive part that stretches from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on West Island. But this is not true. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa. When she was a child, she wanted to be a performer but an unexpected increase in her height made it difficult. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet 1 inches." After I outgrew the male partners, I quit. A lot of former dancers go on to acting, and in Brugel's case it was the nudge of an instructor in drama at high school which pushed her in the right direction. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years, the roles played by Brugel on television and the big screen have been numerous. The character of Rita from the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most notable. Brugel appeared only on rare instances in the initial season of The Handmaid's Tale. The only Canadian member.
